A General Study Program

A suggested program aims at educating PhD students in one of traditional fields of research in the area of Natural Science and Mathematics and in at least one additional area as well as at enabling them to prepare an interdisciplinary doctoral thesis.

1. The program is meant for people interested in preparing interdisciplinary doctoral theses.
2. Each PhD student works under the supervision of two advisers, representing different fields of research.
3. Students may perform a part of the project outside the University of Warsaw if they obtain the consent of the director of MISDoMP studies and their two advisers and if they discuss their research progress with the advisers.
4. Each PhD student is obliged to participate in interdisciplinary doctoral seminars and to present the results of his/her doctoral research at least once a year.
5. Each PhD student is obliged to attend 240 credit hours of courses. Respectively 60 credit hours fall on each of two fields of research connected with a particular interdisciplinary doctoral thesis, 60 hours fall on a research field directly linked to a thesis and 60 hours have to be devoted to general knowledge courses. The choice of courses will require the consent of PhD student's advisers. These requirements are to make up for the possible knowledge gaps resulting from previous educational stages and to enable PhD students to write interdisciplinary doctoral theses.
6. The teaching load of each PhD student is 180 credit hours of courses during the first three years of doctoral studies.
7. Each PhD student has the right to free participation in workshops and seminars at MISDoMP Faculties (if their topics are  connected with a subject of a particular PhD thesis).

Admission

1.  Assessment of PhD program candidates includes:
   a) an interview with a candidate (up to 20 points) composed of:
   1. a 15-minute presentation in English on a candidate's topic of choice - it may be a description of an interesting scientific problem, a model, a phenomenon or a particular scientific article, own achievements or one of the research topics accepted for realization in the framework of MISDoMP doctoral studies, (a beamer and a blackboard will be available).
   2. a follow-up discussion.
   3. the English of the presentation will be evaluated.

   b) candidate's past academic achievements: publications, participation in research programs, scientific collaboration with other scholars, participation in scientific conferences, involvement in scientific societies (up to 20 points)

   c) the transcript  of candidate's previously completed studies and the grade point average (0-12 points, proportionally from grade point average 3 to 5) and up to three point for the recommendation letters. These letters are to be delivered by the authors directly to the head of MIDoMP.

The total score equals the smaller of the two numbers: 45 or the sum of points for the interview, the candidate's past academic achievements and for the previously completed studies.

Only candidates who have obtained over 50% of available points may be admitted to the doctoral studies program.

1. There is a limit of 10 positions. Admission will be determined by the results of the ranking procedure. Candidates who have obtained the greatest number of points shall be admitted to the first year of doctoral studies.
2. A person who wants to apply for admission to MISDoMP doctoral studies is supposed to:
    

a) obtain a Master's degree or its equivalent of a second degree diploma by the end of September 2014,
b) register to MISDoMP on-line, by using the UW Candidates' Internet Registration System (IRK).
c) submit the required documents at the MISMaP College Office, 93 Żwirki i Wigury st. room 156 (in the Geology Faculty building) by 23 May 2014.

1. A MISDoMP candidate is supposed to submit the following documents:

   a) a certified copy of a graduation diploma of five-year Master program studies or second degree studies (a certificate of passing a Master's exam), or a certificate of completing all required courses (in this case a certified diploma copy should be submitted before the beginning of doctoral studies).
   b) an IRK application.
   c) a CV,
   d) four photos,
   e) a transcript  with the  information on the grade point average,
   f) information about student's academic activities, especially participation in conferences, internships,
   g) personal questionnaire,
   h) a recommendation letter  from the Master's thesis supervisor or from a knowlegeable academic staff member,
   i) description of candidate's academic interests,
   j) the choice of research topics with the written approval of two potential advisers for realizing a specified research topic.

2.  In case when not all positions at doctoral studies have been filled during the admission procedure or if despite a positive result of the admission procedure a candidate has not started doctoral studies or has not submitted all necessary documents in a due time, the MISDOMP head may announce a supplementary admission procedure for doctoral studies candidates.
