Graduates of higher education studies with a bachelor's degree, master's degree or equivalent obtained in obtained in the field of biology, biotechnology, environmental protection or related disciplines hall be admitted to the study programme within the limit of places.
In the case of candidates from other faculties than biotechnology, the decision on admission to the recruitment procedure shall be made by the examination committee based on the analysis of the curriculum and the obtained learning outcomes of the completed studies.
A candidate for studies is required to submit an appropriate medical certificate confirming that there are no health contraindications to study in this field.
The aim of the degree programme is to prepare graduates to use their broad knowledge in biology, independently deepen their knowledge, present their knowledge in public, and apply it in professional activity. Bachelor’s degree studies are the first stage on the path of receiving qualifications to work in laboratories and facilities related to food industry, pharmaceutics, health care, plant breeding, pest control, environmental protection, nature conservation and related to them economic sectors and fields of science.
A student acquires knowledge in specific disciplines consisting of biotechnology, in particular: sciences describing the biodiversity of the living world, microbiology, cell biology, plants anatomy, histology, embryology and developmental biology, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and genetic engineering, cytogenetics, tissue culture, animal and plant physiology, ecology, environmental protection, the basics of bioprocess engineering, chemical analytics, law, production economics, rules for production organisation, and safety regulations for work in biotechnology. A crucial element of the studies lies in making use of databases, audio-visual means, computer programmes and other tools that are the base of modern biotechnologists’ work and are helpful in their further self-education and social communication.
Major: Plant Biotechnology
The graduate of this specialisation receives sound and state-of-the-art knowledge of the molecular basis of biotechnological processes supporting plant production methods for the needs of modern agriculture and other industries (e.g. food, processing and pharmaceutical). The practical, specialised skills of the graduate, underpinned by the necessary theoretical knowledge, relate to learning how to operate the advanced apparatus of a biotechnology laboratory and the basic and advanced techniques used in plant biotechnology. The graduate of the described specialisation has the knowledge and practical skills to take up employment in the modern agriculture sector.
Major: Environmental Biotechnology
The graduate of this specialisation has the skills to apply the latest biotechnological techniques and tools in learning and shaping biotechnological processes in various environments. As a result, he/she is ready to start working in institutions applying and implementing modern technologies based on using plants and microorganisms and the enzymes they produce. The skills acquired in the course of studies in working with specialised research apparatus will enable him/her to be employed in environmental analytical and diagnostic laboratories, research and development institutions, institutions related to animal husbandry, industries related to biotechnological environmental cleaning, waste treatment according to the assumptions of the circular economy and the food, processing or pharmaceutical industry.
