Full programme's name: Composition, Conducting and Music Theory. All applicants must either submit a video recording (conducting either a symphonic piece - speciality: Symphony and Opera Conducting or a choir piece - speciality: Choir Conducting) or perform in person before members of the Faculty (please contact: schoolofmusic@am.katowice.pl to arrange an audition). Admission can be based on submitted recording only; please note however that if live performance does not present the same level - the Academy reserves the right to cancel its initial decision. Prospective candidates must be in possession of a secondary education certificate (enabling its holders to pursue further studies at the academic level) as well as a certificate confirming knowledge of the English language – one of the following:

The Academy was founded in 1929. Located in a beautiful neo-Gothic building the Academy holds variety of artistic events such as concerts, master classes, workshops, competitions and conferences both on national and international levels, combined with didactic activities.
The organisational structure of the Academy consists of two departments: Composition, Interpretation, Education and Jazz Department and Vocal-Instrumental Department. Studies are offered in many fields: composition and music theory, conducting, artistic education in the field of music, jazz, instrumental performance, vocal performance and church music.
Since the academic year 2011/2012 the Academy of Music has been offering paid studies in given specialties in the English language.
The Academy of Music in Katowice vaunts a number of outstanding academics, including pianists – Prof. Andrzej Jasiński, Józef Stompel, Wojciech Świtała, harpist – Prof. Helga Storck, guitarist – Prof. Alina Gruszka, organist – Prof. Julian Gembalski, harpsichordist – Prof. Marek Toporowski, accordionist – Prof. Joachim Pichura, cellist – Prof. Paweł Głombik as well as faculty members – musicians of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
