How did you learn about The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław?
In the First semester of my graduation year (studying at the Artez hoge school voor de kunsten in Netherlands.) I decide to do an exchange in Spain. During my time there I met a couple of artstudents from the Eugeniusz academy who became good friends of mine. They told me a lot about the academy.
Why did you decide to study in Poland?
Because of the traditional approach to printmaking. I decided that if I wanted to become a professional printmaker the best place to learn how to become one would be Poland.
Which programme in our Academy did you choose?
One-year postgraduate study programme Interdisciplinary Printmaking.
What were your plans and expectations related to studying in the Academy?
I wanted to learn more about techniques like mezzotint and lithography (Both of which are not taught in art universities in Netherlands). As for expectations, I tried to keep an open mind, I knew that the teacher/student hierarchy was a bit different from what I was used to, so I had some concerns regarding that. But eventually everything worked out fine.
What kind of possibilities have studies in the Academy given you?
I think the most important thing is that this studies has given me a lot of confidence, I learned exactly how an etching should be printed (traditionaly). I met a lot of interesting people, and learned the basics of the techniques I was the most interested in (mezzotint and lithography).
Would you decide to continue your studying in the Academy?
For me, one year of studies was enough.
What would you tell to all those who hesitate to study in Poland?
Rise up to the challenge. You might be pleasantly surprised.
