Part of my family live in Poland, Premedical Course gave me a good impression, family members also studied at the Medical University of Gdańsk, good level of education, I like to study in English, the division of the study year is very good.
What field of study in Poland did you choose?
6 year M.D. Programme plus Premedical Course.
Why did you choose the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG)?
Part of my family live in Poland, Premedical Course gave me a good impression, family members also studied at the Medical University of Gdańsk, good level of education, I like to study in English, the division of the study year is very good.
What were your plans and expectations related to studying in Poland?
Firstly I planned only doing Premedical Course. My plans generally are very open as is my future and where I will be eventually working. In the MUG programme many students do the USMLE or similar and I would like to secure myself different options once I finish. My expectations was to get to know my polish origin better and how it is to live in Poland. I didn’t know what is going to await me in PL. Actually I expected a broader international student group, not so many Swedish people which would have been more fun for me as the only Swiss (or nearly only).
Have they already come true?
Partially as I was expecting to get to know my polish culture better. But about the end exams like USMLE (The United States Medical Licensing Examination) – I am not there yet, so I can’t say at the moment.
What kind of possibilities studies in Poland have given you?
English is an international scientific language, so it will give me broader possibilities in future (as compared to German). Unfortunately MUG isn’t so known as a good University as is UNIZH in Switzerland, even though I believe I’m receiving better education at MUG. Wished they could make their name more known as a great university.
What would you tell to All Those who hesitate to study in Poland?
Poland is a very special place. Very open on the level of international education and scientific exchange however on a cultural level very discriminating basing on race. But if you can look over the last point Tricity is a student friendly place, many discounts and in summer a lot going on. Cinema tickets, food, gym, transport much cheaper than in my country for students (no discount). Additionally the study is hard but rewarding. It’s no secret that polish people are recognized as very good educated and competent and hardworking people. Also the new hospital makes me proud to be a MUG student.
