A new step of scientific cooperation between Poland and Lithuania
On 17th September Wojciech Murdzek, the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education together with the Minister of National Education Dariusz Piontkowski had a meeting with Algirdas Monkevičius the Minister of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania.
Ministers discussed a range of topics relating to science, research, and higher education. In plans is developing cooperation between the National Science Center in Poland, the National Center for Research and Development, and the Lithuanian side. There were also topics discussed like learning the Lithuanian language at Polish universities and the possibility of cooperation in the field of common access to research results.
“I believe that science is currently one of the most crucial areas of cooperation that can bring tangible results in our societies and improve the quality of life. Research can create new dynamics by helping to strengthen the relationship between our nations in the long term. An example of such cooperation is the DAINA competition for joint Polish-Lithuanian research projects. I am counting on shifting my interest to cooperation in multilateral programs, such as European Union programs, and increasing the dimension of academic mobility in the future” said Minister Murdzek.
Before, in August, during a ministerial meeting in Vilnius, Minister Wojciech Murdzek and the Minister of Education, Science, and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania signed an Agreement on the mutual recognition of documents entitling to undertake studies and the recognition of periods of study, professional titles, and academic degrees. Its purpose is to adopt the principles of document recognition to the new legal environments in Poland and Lithuania.
