Jagiellonian University tops Polish law faculties ranking

For the seventh consecutive year, the Faculty of Law and Administration took first place in the ranking of law faculties at public higher education institutions in Poland by the Rzeczpospolita daily. The oldest Polish university extended its advantage over its main rivals: the University of Warsaw and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, which ranked second and third, respectively.

As in previous years, the position in the ranking was determined by such criteria as research potential, quality of education and international cooperation. The highest possible score in each of the categories was, respectively, 14, 13 and 7, based on the data from the National Information Processing Institute at the National Research Institute.

The JU Faculty of Low and Administration received 25.18 points out of a maximum of 34 points, extending its advantage over the University of Warsaw by 1.92 points. The third place was taken by the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, whose score was 22.33. The top 10 also included the University of Gdansk (21.13), University of Wrocław (20.64), University of Lodz (20.30), University of Białystok  (19.50), Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw (18.59), Mara Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (18.58), and the University of Silesia in Katowice (18.20).

The top positions in the law faculties ranking reflect the graduates’ pass rates in bar examinations (required to become a legal apprentice in Poland). Altogether, the exams organised by the Ministry of Justice were taken by 6,535 graduates of 51 higher education institutions (including 19 Polish public, 25 Polish non-public, and 7 foreign ones), 54.6 percent of whom successfully passed them. With the examination pass rate of 83.4 percent, the graduates of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration were the most successful of all the candidates. They were followed by the alumni of the University of Warsaw (2nd place, 77.3 percent pass rate) and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (3rd place, 74.2 percent pass rate).
