The Epiphany in Poland

On Saturday, 6th of January, the Epiphany processions passed through the streets of cities all over Poland. It was colourful, noisy and cheerful. This special holiday was celebrated in over 900 places not only in the country but also in the whole world.

The Feast of Epiphany, also commonly referred to as Three Kings' Day is one of the oldest and most interesting Christian holidays. It is based on the story described in the Gospel of Matthew, according to which Three Wise Men from the East came to Bethlehem to worship Jesus Christ. The king’s names were Casper, Melchior and Balthazar. They brought presents for the newborn Jesus – myrrh, incense and gold.

Colourful processions and meetings with singing carols are organised every year to celebrate this special holiday. The processions featured people of all ages, wearing paper crowns, as well as richly dressed actors portraying the Three Wise Men.

The procession were organised in USA, Germany, France as well as Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Zambia.
