Competition on the basis of secondary school certificate – the result of the written test is scored on the two of following subjects:

a) English language (50% of the final result) and

b) one of the following subjects: mathematics, foreign language, history, civic education, geography, Latin and ancient culture, history of art, history of music or philosophy (50% of the final result).

Admissions Office KUL will convert your results into Polish grading system according to score convertion rules.

An applicant is required to submit one of the certificates confirming English proficiency at level B2

Description: 

Studies prepare for:

performing the profession of a journalist and tasks of media employees in press, radio, television and online and mobile media
related professions: public relations specialist (PR agencies), promotion and communication specialist (local and professional units and bodies), Internet marketing specialist, internet analyst, press spokesman, media and communication advisor/consultant (political and business institutions, parliamentary offices, election staffs, non-governmental organizations), photographer, computer graphic designer

Studies allow you to gain a professional workshop of a journalist or a specialist in social communication.

Compulsory work placements:

120 hours of specialized apprenticeships: in traditional and online media, in public relations agencies and companies, in advertising agencies, in promotion offices, in press officers’ offices, in local government and government administration institutions, non-governmental organizations, etc.

Professional practice includes activity in the University Media Center (Radio KUL, TV KUL), as well as social student activity within the Scientific Club of Students of Journalism and Social Communication, the Editorial Office of “Coś Nowego”, Fotpress Photo Gallery, Passion TV Television Agency, co-organizing the Media Knowledge Olympiad, the Media Olympiad, the Film Knowledge and Social Communication Olympiad; Intercollegiate Rhetorical Competition.

Specialist competences:

  • Skills necessary to work in new media:

    the use of ICT and mobile devices for journalistic work and for the study of online media;
    creating, editing and publishing journalistic materials on the web;
    ability to set up and run an online medium.

  • Skills necessary to work in radio and television editorial offices:

    the ability to use a variety of journalistic genres of radio and television;
    editing, preparation of basic radio genres, independent preparation of a radio information service, the ability to work with a microphone;
    operating recording equipment, carrying out editing using a computer program;
    preparation of basic television genres, work in front of the camera;
    working with a camera, making a television montage using a computer program, writing film and television scripts.

  • Skills necessary to work in modern promotion, advertising and social communication:

    practical knowledge of building a PR strategy, maintaining a positive image of the organization and creating various promotional activities;
    knows about the work of press officers;
    practical knowledge in the field of creating and implementing advertising strategies and promotional materials as well as work in advertising agencies.
