Description: 

Applied Ichthyology” course will acquire knowledge and skills in various aspects of inland fisheries (basic science, fisheries economics, policy/law, principles of protection of the aquatic environment and hydrobionts). A graduate will also have a knowledge and practical skills related to breeding and rearing of various fish species in different production systems (earth and artificial ponds, recirculated aquaculture system - RAS, etc.). Graduates will also become familiar with the basics of ecology, water biology and environmental protection. They will be prepared for planning, designing and controlling technological processes, supervision and operation of equipment and devices used in the culture of freshwater fish species. Graduates will know the basic rules for the genetic selection of spawning stocks, toxicology, ichthyopathology and prevention of fish diseases and how to access the quality of fish raw material and processing of fish products.

Future job opportunities: manager of a fish farms, hatcheries and entities managing open water bodies (lakes, reservoirs, pond-based farms), ichthyologist supervising the fish farms, restocking centres and aquaculture facilities, an employee of companies producing and selling feed, fish harvesting and processing equipment, ichthyologist/inspector in state and local government administration units
